Cashed Out -- The 1 Hit Wonder

Man, I really dropped the ball last night at Mona's.

2 karaoke songs. 1 went well. The other....not so much. In the process, I disgraced a legend.

The first was an afterthought. My friend GFX Scott picked a song for me off my list (i'll explain the list in a second). The song? Private Eyes -- Halls + Oates. At first, I thought some of the parts might be just out of my range. I was wrong.

The song was a big hit. Patrons singing...clapping in the chorus. Note to self: More H + O, as long as it's cheesy.

I had also signed up for 2 Johnny Cash songs, "Cocaine Blues" & "A Boy Named Sue". No Cocaine for me....not surprising. It's a rare goodie from Cash's early work...if you're interested, you can download it here.

That leaves only one other culprit: A Boy Named Sue. Great song...and I f*&#ed it up. I just couldn't keep up with the scrolliing text on the screen, plus I just read it and didn't really sing it.

Lesson Learned? You can't go likely into a Cash song.
I've always done the really popular ones well, like Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, & I Walk The Line.

There's a reason why he's such a genius. He made it sound easy....effortless....second nature. But, it's all calculated....and until you know it like the back of your hand, you'd best not touch perfection.

Tomorrow @ Mona's....Theme Night!
