Ike Dumping Rain On Us

While I'm glad Ike has taken a good turn from Florida (esp. the Gulf Coast), we're still feeling the effects.

Rain bands are soaking the SWFL area...and driving to work was a chore.
Oh well. It's still better than driving in feet of snow back home in Missouri. I'll take this any day.

Literary Goodness

Today I bring you a small slice of genius in the internet pie of minutiae.

http://areasofmyexpertise.blogspot.com/

if you've never heard the wonders of John Hodgman's brain droppings...you're sorely lacking.

note of little importance to you: I'll be stopping at the library on my way home to pick up his old book. New book on Amazon.

Thanks to Boing Boing for this find.

Fantasy Fallout

sometimes...i really love/hate this time of year.

sure....my b-day's just around the corner...which also means my favorite season is here as well (autumn).

also...my other favorite season swings into full stride....football season.

unfortunately, it's not all good.
with the football season comes an obsession i'm none too proud of: fantasy obsession.

the players, the stats, the winning....ohhh, the winning.

it's a problem.
a problem that i always think i have under control.
sometimes...i'm not so sure.

this year...i'm in 3 leagues...one of which i'm running for the first time.

i thought i was doing well today...even to the point that i didn't watch the Chiefs play the Patriots.
KO and i attended a friend's poolside barbeque in its place.
lots of beer. lots of fun.

then...when we got back home...i decided to check the scores from the 1pm and 4pm games.
so, i'm relaying the team updates to KO while she's lying down...

then...she falls asleep...so i keep looking....and looking...and looking...

one hour later...and i'm still perusing the wires...checking the leader boards....obsessing over who i should have started and benched.

Ugh....

i really need to nip this in the bud...before i can't be saved.

anyone know if there are support groups i can contact? maybe a hotline?

my sanity may depend on it.

gotta go. maybe i can add a new WR to my.....*slap across the face*

I (Don't) Like Ike...or Josephine

Forecast Models courtesy Weather Underground.
Side Note: For a really cool site for graphic weather geeks, visit
Storm Pulse. Thx KO.

Ok...seriously...

When are these storms gonna stop? 2 years and only one tropical storm rolls through SWFL (Ernesto...for all you scoring at home). Now, it's just a congo line of atmospheric terror.

I really thought Gustav was headed our way....instead it attacked our beloved Big Easy.

Now...it's Hanna...which looks like it's making a turn...but, it's too early to tell on 9-2.

Behind that is the real scary storm...Ike.

Let's just say i don't like what the spaghetti plots are telling me for this pattern.

That said...we'll just sit and wait...and blow to the east.

Oh yeah...and just when you thought it was safe...

Hello Josephine! Ugh...

28 August 2008

Then...There Was Hanna

just when Gustav couldn't make things any more exciting...

Now..there's a new storm in town...and her name called Hanna.

all i know: it's making a beeline for Florida. batten down the hatches, east coast bros. this could be rocky...

stay tuned.

Go For The Gustav

so, i know it's been awhile since i've blogged. surprise, surprise.

well, i just started a new job at the station, overseeing the websites. my first day was last monday...which just happened to coincide with a fiesty little weather system named Fay. Though it stayed a tropical storm, it still created some major headaches for everyone....myself included.

so, you can imagine my wish to enjoy a normal workweek filled with the minutiae we've all come to know and love.
then...Gustav decides to shake things up a bit. now, there's a chance that it won't just screw up a workweek, but a holiday one at that.

so, join me in collectively blowing towards the west, won't you? here's hoping all of our high pressure can keep that nasty sonuvabitch in the western gulf.

a fella can dream, can't he?

Mutton Shot

For your viewing (and mocking) pleasure:

Here are the chops:

18 April 2008

Nothin' On My Mutton

so, i'm growing out some mutton chops. it's all part of a juvenile pact with my friend, jason.

unfortunately, he's not livin' up to his end. all he has to do is grow out a stache to accompany his flavor saver and goatee. he won't do it.

anyway, conventional wisdom says i can return to my standard burns anytime i wish now that the deal is off. i'm far from conventional. at least, when it comes to facial hair.

anyway, it's day 4 since the chops hath been harvested...and they're coming in nicely. got a nice bloated, drugged, dead on the toilet elvis thing going....always attractive.

nothin' but rave reviews from the missus and co-workers. more to come...including pics???

stay tuned...

If you love music and you love sharing your taste in music with the masses and you love rambling on and on and on and writing run-on sentences about music...have i got a URL for you.

It's all on SuperDeluxe. Enjoy!

Super Deluxe Fun

One of the best parts of having our old friend Tivo back is the recent addition of Super Deluxe TivoCast.

So, KO and I signed up for a Season Pass, which means every weekday....a new nugget of comedy gold arrives on our Tivo Now Playing List.

Great stuff, indeed. Like today we received this little gem with a history lesson about our 35th president.

Also, just for my dear readers, a little sample of Tim & Eric Nite Live.

Happy downloading!

Welcome Back, Old Friend

As KO mentioned here...

A few days previous, KO was able to resurrect a dear member of the family.

No, no...Zoe didn't suddenly fall victim to a coma....shame on you for even thinking it.

Instead, our dear Tivo was restored with a new and improved 160 GB hard drive, rendering it 4 times faster than she was during her previous 3 year tour of duty.

I cannot tell you how much I've missed her.
NO LONGER will I require deciphering a show by (gasp!) recognizing the characters and cross-referencing them through my internal catalogue of banal and useless information embedded betwixed my ears.

NO LONGER will the need arise to dust off some outdated reel to reel media and relay all those lines of resolution onto a piece of plastic known throughout the latter half of the previous century as
V-I-D-E-O T-A-P-E.
The fact that the antique contraption utilized in said recording hasn't been submitted to the Smithsonian as a whimsical relic, recalling to mind the good-ole-days, is a feat in itself.

NO LONGER will our bedroom TV be subjected to the substandard world it knew too well not so long ago. You would be a fool to think that such a thing could 0ccur with retaliation.

I put it to you, Greg....Isn't the mere thought that this atrocity occurred without swift judiciary action by some anagrammed governing body....well, is that not a clear example of cruel and unusual punishment?

I would say so.

Instead, after a week of reverting back to the dark ages, KO began the delicate work of bringing our beloved antennaed companion back from the brink.

After a tension-filled half hour, like Jesus pulling Lazarus from his tomb, KO emerged from the delicate procedure and defiantly called me with the sweetest sounds these ears have captured since the day she said "I do": (I'm talking about KO....stay with me.)
The euphoric start-up animation we've both come to know and love: Our Tivo was home again.

Now, our dear friend is back and better than ever, doing all the legwork...finding our favorite shows...prepping it all for hours of entertainment....and what doth she receive in return?
Only my undying adoration.

When I sit back and think hard about the lesson we've all learned in the dramatic tale of love, loss, and redemption...I can only think of the immortal words uttered by the sage-like hair band Cinderella:

Don't know what you got
'Til it's gone

Truer words were ne'er spoken.

Thanks for fighting the good fight, old pal.
May the road ahead be filled with nothing but green fields and thumbs way up.

There is a God. Other than George Brett....or this lady.

My prayers hath been answered.

Dark Side of The Rainbow

So, I'm slaving away at the office today....running around, barking orders, kissing hands, shaking babies...you know, a typical Friday.

Then, a magazine in the newsroom caught my eye. Mainly, because Bill Murray was on the cover -- in a Fat Jumpsuit Elvis costume, no less. So, I'm flipping through the book, looking for the cover article, when I happen upon another blurb talking about the "Dark Side of the Rainbow" phenomenom. You know about this, right? The syncronicity between The Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. If you're interested, you can find articles critiquing the experiment at StraightDope, the first mainstream reporter experiment, and an entire site dedicated to the process.

How cool is the InterWeb?

If you don't know of what I speak, see link above. We can still be friends...just read the Wiki first. I'll wait.

If you do know what's up, you're a cool person. I'm not sure why I'm hanging on the other half. Seriously...how do you not know about this? Why aren't you filling your head with useless info like me?

Moving on...

Welcome back. I did some extensive research (i.e typed in youtube.com) and found exactly what i suspected -- The first part of the film available right at your fingertips (here is a playlist I've made for your conveinience).

If you want to the original movie soundtrack mashed in with the album track...google video has you covered.

Did I mention how much I love YouTube...and the InterWeb?

So, fire up a fattie, sit back and relax. Heaven awaits over the rainbow.

Omaha Mall Massacre Topical

This is the topical i created for Wednesday night at work. KO also links to it for her Wordless Wednesday post.

i nixed the other 4 ideas i had after seeing this horrific story all over the cable news station.

just a little window in my world...

Crooks Using Charities

Another topical from last week. Turned out that a woman who thought she was giving back to a great charity ended up sending her donations through an imposter.

tought to hear about at that giving time of year, huh?

the bites ended up working great for this spot...check it out.
